Family Adventures in Nature
Mission Statement

Our mission is to inspire and support families to unite in a commitment to frequently enjoy fulfilling experiences in nature, and ultimately to foster a deep, lifelong connection to, and responsibility for, the natural world.

We also believe that evidence suggests that children who spend plenty of unstructured time outdoors are happier, healthier and smarter! We encourage families to get out on a regular basis and foster a natural sense of curiosity and awe! What better way to help your child meet social, physical and emotional milestones than in the natural world!

General Information

Family Adventures in Nature was officially founded in November 2009 by Ron and Janice Swaisgood and their two boys Owen and Luke. It has since grown and transformed into a model club for others nationwide. We have some 400+ members on our mailing list and would love to add others who are interested in being inspired and motivated to get out into nearby nature on a regular basis. We help families overcome their barriers in getting outside and help get "nature" back on the family calendar! Our club model of fostering local, satellite clubs within the larger family nature club provides plenty of opportunities that meet a variety of schedules! So dust off your hiking shoes, grab a magnifying glass and join us! It's free! Let us know that you found us on sdchildrenandnature.org!
